We are an independent observatory founded by PAOLA E+ Project, that monitors academic integrity, provides resources on whistleblowing, and supports the development of ethical academic cultures, but we are not a direct reporting channel for misconduct.
The Observatory is managed by a team of academic professionals, researchers and policy experts dedicated to enhance transparency and ethical practices within educational institutions. The Observatory is an outcome of the Project PAOLA, funded by Erasmus+ Actions. The project’s consortium is composed by Instante Falante / RUMO (Coordinator), Dublin City University, Transparência e Integridade, Marie Curie Alumni Association, SciLink and University of Bocconi. More information on the project can be found here.(link to About us page)
NO, we do not handle direct reporting of misconduct. We focus on raising awareness, providing information, and guiding you to appropriate institutional channels.
You should report misconduct directly to your academic institution’s designated whistleblowing or ethics office, as they are responsible for handling such cases.
Whistleblowing involves reporting unethical or illegal activities within an institution.
In academia whistleblowing refers to reporting academic dishonesty, plagiarism, or misconduct through institutional procedures designed to protect whistleblowers.
Whistleblowing policies are typically available through your institution’s website or ethics office. You can also reach out to administrative staff for guidance.
Clear policies, effective communication, ethical leadership, and a supportive culture that values integrity are essential in preventing academic misconduct.
Most institutions provide protections against retaliation for whistleblowers, ensuring confidentiality and safeguarding against negative consequences.
Most institutions allow for confidential or anonymous reporting, but you will need to confirm specific procedures with your institution.
You should report any retaliation to your institution’s whistleblowing office, as they are required to protect you from negative consequences.
Leaders can model ethical behavior, communicate clear policies, and foster an environment where academic integrity is prioritized and supported.
You can lead by example, promote discussions about ethics, and support transparency and accountability in academic practices.
